Artist's Statement

I am currently a doctorial student in biology at Texas Tech University, studying climate change.  I also have a formal background in geology and paleontology and earned undergraduate and graduate degrees in geology at Lamar University and Texas Tech University, respectively.

During my study of geology, I spent over ten years assisting and conducting research in the Big Bend region of West Texas.  It was at this time, nearly fifteen years ago, that I began seriously studying photography independently.  At first, I was content to photograph subjects only for scientific and documentary purposes.  But about ten years ago, I became interested in capturing moments in time.  I wanted viewers to be able to immerse themselves into a photo . . . so they would “feel” as if they were there at the time the photo was taken.  This began my study of panoramic photography.

Recently, I have developed interests in capturing emotions through the photography of models and still life subjects.  I also find it intriguing to photograph landscapes and structures that have been affected by human interaction, thus reflecting part of the human condition.
