Limited Edition Prints
All photographs by Richard Allen Ashmore are limited edition, limited to 25 prints of each type of print in which a photograph is produced. Most photographs are available in two of the following print types: Fine Art Giclée, Photo Giclée, and Metallic. All prints are available as fine art giclée prints. Photo giclée and metallic prints also are available for certain photographs. These prints are made available because photo giclée and metallic prints provide a stronger contrast and greater dynamic range relative to fine art giclée prints. For some, this glossy, wet, look provides for a more dramatic display. Still, the fine art giclée print is the only print type that is considered a work of fine art rather than just a photographic print.
All giclée prints are produced using the highest quality archival inks and papers available on both professional Epson and Canon printers. Metallic prints are produced on a Noritsu wet-process printer using light-sensitive paper (much like a photographic print developed in a darkroom) and coated with a transparent coating that blocks ultra-violet light.
All prints are hand numbered and signed by the artist, and include additional information to properly identify the photograph. Properly framed, using at least conservation quality materials, and displayed, prints should last at least several decades before any noticeable fading occurs. Properly framed and displayed fine art giclée prints should last approximately two centuries before noticeably fading.
Artist Proof Prints
During the process to produce the first limited edition print of a photo, proof prints of a photo are typically printed for inspection of print quality, contrast, color saturation, etc. Artist proof prints do exist for some of Richard Allen Ashmore's photographs and are extremely limited in number. No photograph will have more than ten (10) artist proofs, with many having less or none. These artists proofs are printed using the same materials and processes used in the production of the limited edition prints. All artist proof prints are hand labeled "AP" and signed by the artist.
